Did anyone watch the Idol Gives Back show tonight? First off, PRAISE THE LORD for what they are doing...it's really a great thing. Such a huge amount of money being used in such HUGE humanitarian ways. I enjoyed the show for the most part...well, the parts I watched. You see, since God gave man the knowledge and ability to create one of the most wonderful technological advancements, my life has gotten a bit easier when it comes to TV. I was not bogged down watching the entire 2 & 1/2 hour show tonight...I zipped right through most of it and only watched the parts I was interested in! That fast forward and rewind button is a beautiful thing! THANK YOU TIVO!
For anyone who did tune into the show, what did you think of the last musical number performed by the idol contestants? Were you surprised? Were you pleased? Were you aware of what they left out? For those that didn't watch, the idols were singing "inspirational" songs this week during the competition portion of last nights show...tonight, they did a musical number to "SHOUT TO THE LORD". When I heard Ryan Secreast introduce that the idols were singing that song, I shouted "WOW! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY'RE SINGING THAT!". And then my mind thought of all the people watching idol at that moment and how they were being exposed to "Jesus" by listening to that song! It's such a powerful song. Such powerful words. But they left out, what I consider, to be the most important part of that song....the name of Jesus! The person that the whole song was written about! Here are the lyrics for anyone who does not know them:

Idol leaves Jesus out...
Shout to The Lord
My Jesus,
My Savior,
Lord, there is none like You;
All of my days
I want to praise
the wonders of Your mighty love.
My comfort,
my shelter,
Tower of refuge and strength;
let every breath,
all that I am
never cease to worship You.
Shout to the Lord,
all the earth,let us sing
power and majesty,
praise to the King;
mountains bow down and the seas will roar
at the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands,
forever I'll love You,
forever I'll stand,
nothing compares to the promise I have in You.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just the lyrics of that song say so much...and it hit me like a big brick wall when I realized that they weren't singing it to, or about Jesus. They changed the song so that it would not "offend" anyone. Why else leave out the name of Jesus Christ, the Savior of all mankind, Son of God and Son of Man, Perfector of our Faith and the slaughter for our sins. Why would "Jesus" offend anyone? Hmmm, maybe because He's Truth. Maybe because He says there is "NO OTHER WAY to the Father, but by ME". Maybe because so much of the world has bought into the "me" mentality and are following in the steps of Oprah Winfrey and her Godless faith (click here to go to a video on You Tube about Oprah and her "answers")
The idols lyrics were more vague. They could fit any god. Instead of leading off the song with the first lyric of "My Jesus", the lyric was changed to "My Shepherd, My Savior, Lord there is none like you". I guess some would say I'm being a bit too picky about this...but I say to you, if I'm being too picky, then what was the harm of singing the song the way it was written and use the name of Jesus?
Without JESUS that song would never have been written in the first place!
Well, there. I'll leave it at that.
I welcome your comments, but I warn "anonymous" critics...claim your name or I won't approve your comment...that's a big pet peeve of mine. Don't hide behind anonymous if you really want to give an opposing opinion.
