Yesterday, I picked Megan up from school and she promptly reminded me that it was "MOMMY-MEGAN DAY". We named Thursday's this because she goes to K5 everyday until 12pm, and on Thursday, my son is in his preschool class until 2pm (taking a nap), so we have a couple of hours to kill before having to go back up to the school to pick him up. We usually go get a bite to eat, and walk around WalMart, or go to the park, or something along those lines. Yesterday was no different. Megan wanted to go to Burger King, but with me trying to diet and exercise, I wanted something light to eat, so I talked her into going to Chick Fil A (again). When we pulled into the parking lot, there were absolutely NO parking places and the drive thru was backed up around the building....SPRING BREAK WEEK WAS DEFINITELY IN FORCE!!!
So, as soon as I could maneuver my way out of the parking lot, I DID. I hate going to a crowded restaurant. Especially with the chaos of a playground that is overflowing with kids. She was disappointed, but we went a couple of doors down and decided to eat at Ruby Tuesdays. I was thinking that it would be a good idea, because she usually likes their menu, and I could get the awesome salad bar. That may have been a big mistake financially because it ended up costing me much more than I really care to spend on lunch for the both of us. It was a good and healthy meal, but I forgot that even though my meal was $7.99, and hers was $3.99, they were going to charge me an arm and leg for my diet soda!! Why do restaurants do that??? It's like O'Charleys has the whole "kids eat free" mantra, but NO THEY DON'T! If you buy your kid a drink they charge you $2.50 for that tiny little kids cup! I know it's still a cheap meal for $2.50, but it totally IRKS ME that they lie to you. Well, we work around that because if I know that we are going to O Charleys, I stock a diaper bag full of juice box's and bottle water and that's what the kids get! Or, I'll take an empty sippy cup and fill theirs up with sweet tea, and make the waiter refill my cup! Ha! GOTCHA! The waiter always looks funny at me when I say "nothing to drink for the kids" but I dare them to tell me I can't bring it in!
"DO YOU KNOW GOD?"
I wish you could have heard her tone. It wasn't disrespectful. It wasn't shy, or invasive. I guess you could say it was instinct for her to ask. I love that. So often, I would feel the prompting of the Holy Spirit to ask someone if they "Know God" and I wouldn't ask. Megan never questioned it. She just did it. I love that she is so young and innocent and hasn't lived enough to know that the world sometimes looks down on that and that is partly what keeps some (namely me) from spreading the word as believers should do! I have a great job ahead of me to help my daughter understand that while there are circumstances where you have to be careful when presenting the gospel or simply asking someone "DO YOU KNOW GOD?", there is never a reason to loose that boldness, and genuine desire to tell others about Jesus. That's a hard thing to teach, and I'm reminded now, probably by the prompting of the Holy Spirit, that she's only going to learn that from example. My example. If she sees me, and her father openly discussing God to others, whether it be in restaurants, at a playground meeting, at the grocery store, or in an elevator making small talk in the 10 seconds it takes to ride up a few floors, then hopefully, and just possibly she might not loose her gumph! Her bull-dog tenacity. Her boldness. I'm taking a lesson from my 6 year old..
